Our flight, with time change, had us landing in Kauai in the early afternoon. That gave us just enough time to get a car (we opted for a convertible), get checked into the hotel and then drive up to the North side of the island for sunset.
After countless hours of researching beaches via Google Maps, YouTube, 500px, Instagram, etc., I decided that Tunnels Beach was my favorite for that touristy Kauai photo. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the remnants of hurricane Fernanda was passing by for a good portion of our trip. This made for less than ideal weather for hanging out at a beach all day, but definitely added drama to the skies and ocean.
This photo was fairly straightforward, just point the camera down the beach towards the green mountains and wait for the perfect wave. I was even lucky enough to have some sun rays shine through the clouds. I used a 3 stop soft GND to darken the sky a bit so I could get everything into one exposure.
What a great way to start our week in Kauai!
